Timeline of music videos

1900

Edison invents the gramophone in the USA - allows people to record sound and listen to when ever they want.

1930

Creation of the first "soundies" (musicals) - music being presented with imagery started to become popular.

1963

UK's first music TV programme, Ready Steady go (ITV) - allowed artist to promote their music

1964

Top of the Pops TV programme Begins (BBC) - BBC's more successful version of a music TV programme - It had a bigger impact on society due it had larger stars

1975

Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody - a music video that was twice the length of the standard at the time. -

1981

MTV launched - An entire channel dedicated to promoting musicians, bands and artists through music videos.

1983

Michael Jackson: Thriller - 14 minute long music video/short film - was completely different to anything ever done before it.

1987

MTV Europe - Europe now has access to the popular music channel.

2005

launch of YouTube - the ability to watch videos on demand wherever there is internet.

2010

launch of music video service Vevo - gives musicians and artist a service to support their music videos on the internet.
